How we cut our waste by half
Reusable cups, a compost run, and a milk order that finally matches what we actually pour.
We were throwing away more than we were comfortable admitting: cups, lids, and a genuinely embarrassing amount of milk. Here is what actually moved the number, and what did not.
The milk order
Steaming to order rather than to the jug you happened to pick up sounds obvious. Retraining the habit took a month and cut dairy waste by more than a third on its own.
Cups
We knocked the price down for anyone bringing their own cup rather than adding a charge for taking ours. Same maths, very different response — about one in three drinks now goes into a cup that already existed.
Grounds
Spent grounds go out in a bin by the door on Saturdays. Take them for your garden; they are free and there are always more.
None of this is finished. If you can see something we are still getting wrong, tell whoever is on bar.
